Teresa S. Graybill

Salon Owner and Stylist

Hairstylist and Owner My clients often ask me how I got started in Cosmetology so I’m sharing some interesting history. I began my training in 1982 at Gibboney Vocational Technical School at Patrick Henry High School under the supervision of Susan J. Cloeter. I expanded my knowledge and techniques when in 1991; I trained under Canadian Wayne Grund, learning new techniques using a razor, which I continue to use today. That is when I began to build my confidence as a successful hairstylist. As a platform artist, he was a big influence in my career and the catalyst I needed to become the professional I am today. I was taught to listen to my clients needs. Learning to communicate with one’s clients is crucial and Wayne said it seemed to be a struggle for some stylist. Another tip Wayne Grund expressed was how important it is for hairstylist to personally experience the services that our clients would receive. That was a valuable lesson for me, as I took him up on the encouragement to experience for myself a visit to a salon. Let’s just say, my experience at the salon is one I’ll always remember. My salon visit was not the most pleasant, it was very disappointing. I took away a valuable lesson that day, especially in the need for better communication, listening to my clients and asking questions. I made a promise myself; to always treat my clients with respect and provide the most memorable salon experience I could offer. After working in other salons, in 2002, I knew I wanted my own salon and kept focused on the goal, expanding and always updating my skills, built my clientele and in 2007, opened my own salon. Today I am a salon owner and hairstylist. I believe I am truly blessed and successful. Just simple joys of the day, like a smile on someone’s face, hearing your clients laugh so hard and they tell you they haven't felt that good in years. To me, that is successful!
